What Icelandic households are moving away from
Iceland has a small domestic market and a correspondingly limited channel selection through traditional providers, so households that want Nordic or international content have usually assembled it from several services. That fragmentation is the main thing consolidating solves here.
The constraint that makes Iceland different is physical. International content arrives by submarine cable, so latency to the mainland is set by geography rather than by tuning. No amount of bitrate compensates for a badly routed path, which is why where a provider places its servers is a more useful question here than anywhere else in the region.
