Norwegian networks and why routing matters

Norwegian ISPs manage traffic tightly during the evening peak, which is precisely when a live match is on. A stream routed through Oslo and exchanged locally at NIX behaves very differently from one hauled in over international transit — same file, same bitrate, completely different experience on a Tuesday night.

What Norwegian households are moving away from

The typical Norwegian setup until recently was a cable or fibre TV package from the same company that supplied the broadband, plus a separate sports subscription, plus one or two streaming apps. That works, but it means three or four bills, three or four apps, and a remote for each. The channels a household actually watches are usually a small subset of what it pays for.

The other thing Norwegian viewers run into is the winter sports calendar. Skiing and biathlon rights move between broadcasters, and a package that covered the season last year does not necessarily cover it this year. Consolidating the channels rather than the contracts is what makes that less painful.
